Pacific Jamboree 2028 is taking shape, and we’re looking for someone to help lead the team that will bring it all together.
The next Pacific Jamboree will take place July 8–15, 2028, at Camp Barnard in Sooke, BC. The Jamboree will bring Scouts and Scouters together from across Canada and around the world for a week of camping, adventure, friendship and Scouting.
To make all of that happen, we need a Jamboree Chair.
What does the Jamboree Chair do?
The Chair provides the overall leadership for the planning and delivery of the Jamboree. That means building a strong management team, working with Scouts Canada, developing the business plan and budget, and making sure all of the different pieces of the Jamboree come together.
There’s a lot involved. The Jamboree team will include people responsible for areas such as program and adventures, food services, health and safety, emergency services, transportation, site services, participant sub-camps, marketing and publicity, administration and finance.
The Chair’s role is to bring those people together, support them, and keep everyone working toward the same goal: a safe, successful and memorable Jamboree.
A group of past Jamboree volunteers has already come together to get some of the initial work underway, and that group will continue to support the new Chair. There is also a plan for a Co-Chair who will bring the youth perspective to the Jamboree leadership team.
Who are we looking for?
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys bringing people together and taking on a challenge.
The successful candidate must be an active Scouts Canada member and maintain Volunteer Ready status. Experience organizing and leading medium-to-large events, along with strong leadership, communication and team-building skills, will be important.
You don’t need to know how to do every job involved in running a Jamboree. You do need to be able to find the people who do, build a good team around you and keep things moving when there are challenges along the way.
Previous Jamboree experience would be an asset.
It’s a big commitment — and a pretty great opportunity.
The expected commitment is about 20–30 hours per month through June 2028, with the workload increasing as the Jamboree approaches. The Chair will be on site for approximately 12–14 days around the seven-day event, followed by additional time for dismantling, reporting and the post-Jamboree review.
There’s no question that leading a Jamboree takes time and effort. But it’s also an opportunity to work with an incredible group of volunteers and help create an experience that Scouts and Scouters will remember for a long time.
