Calling all youth artists! Do you know your way around paper and crayons? Photoshop or InDesign? Then we want to hear from you!
The Pacific Jamboree is looking for its next camp badge! The selected badge will be given to all Participants and OOS attending PJ 2019, and a digital version will be used as the camp logo online and on Jamboree media.
We’re not telling you what to do, but there are a few ground rules:
- Designs must fit within a hexagon shape.
- Designs must relate to the Jamboree’s theme Myths and Legends.
- Wording: “Pacific Jamboree 2019”, “Camp Barnard”, and “July 7-13, 2019” must be visible on the design.
- Keep in mind, the finished badge will be a maximum of 3 inches at its widest point.
- No offence to our fantastic leaders, but we’re looking for designs from Scouts, Venturers, and Rovers.
The top three submitted designs, as judged by the PJ 2019 Organizing Team, will be put to public vote on the Pacific Jamboree Facebook Page.
Timelines:
January 1-21 – Call for submissions
February 1 – Final design announced and debuted on PJ social media
Send your designs to: zach.dallas (at) scouts.ca before January 21. Be sure to include your name, section, group name, area, and council. Designs can be sent as PDF, PNG, JPEG, PSD, INDD, or AI file types.
The designer of the chosen badge will receive a special prize, presented at PJ 2019.
Frequently asked questions
Why a hexagon?
Each subcamp, department, and many of the activities will also use a hexagon shape for their badge. Our goal is to create a honeycomb-like collage of badges when all pieced together.
How many colours can I use?
We’re limited to seven (7) colours in the production of crests. If your design contains more than seven colours, the design will be simplified.
Is there anything I can’t include in my design?
No drugs, profanity, or violence, please.
How can I send you my design?
Please email a copy of your design to: zach.dallas (at) scouts.ca. We can accept PDF, PNG, JPEG, PSD, INDD, or AI file types.
I’m not a great artist. Can I still submit?
Absolutely! Our graphics team can help tidy up your design and make it ready for the public.
Will you be changing or combining designs?
We will endeavor to keep designs the way they’re submitted to us. We may make some small changes to colours or layout in order to work with our crest manufacturer. We will not combine designs.
My Troop wants to submit a design as a whole. Can we do that?
Sure, why not!
My question isn’t listed here. Who can I talk to?
Please send an email to: zach.dallas (at) scouts.ca
