Olympus – Mountain of the Gods
Mount Olympus is the mythical home of the gods in Greek mythology. It was shrouded from human eyes by clouds which constantly obscured its peaks. In Greece, you will also find a Mount Olympus, the tallest mountain in the country and a National Park.
All 12 Olympian gods lived at Mount Olympus: Zeus and his wife Hera, Athena, Poseidon, Artemis, Apollo, Demeter, Hester, Aphrodite, Hermes, Hephaestus and Ares. The gods met daily at Zeus’ palace in the Pantheon, where they held feasts and discussed the fate of the mortals.
Mare Nostrum
The term mare nostrum (Latin for “Our Sea”) originally was first used by Romans to refer to the Seas around Italy. Soon the, Romans controlled from Spain to Egypt, and mare nostrum began to mean the whole Mediterranean Sea.
Today, the term “Mare Nostrum is intended to mean the full diversity of Mediterranean cultures.
