Thank you and goodnight

Thank you and goodnight

The PJ 2019 PR Team badge.

Well, PJ 2019, it’s been a slice. On behalf of the PJ PR Team, I would like to thank you for the follows, likes, shares, and views online. I hope you enjoyed everything as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

This PJ was a little different for the PR Team. We decided to forgo a camp newspaper, as has been a tradition for so many jamborees. It was not an easy decision to make because I know so many people enjoy it, but we saw the room for us to expand our coverage into the digital realm. We were able to post things as they happened, bringing the PJ experience directly to your phones and computer screens. I hope this continues (and grows!) at the next PJ.

PJ 2019 saw some fantastic media coverage. We had visits from two local television news stations- CHEK News and CTV Vancouver Island, radio coverage from CBC’s All Points West, and a couple of newspaper articles in the Times Colonist and Sooke News Mirror.

You can find copies of the photos and links to videos and stories we produced on our Facebook page. These will remain for as long as Facebook is around. Feel free to tag yourselves or people you know and share what you like. Let’s grow the virtual Pacific Jamboree community!

Moving forward to future Pacific Jamborees, you can expect to see content on the same social media pages we have used through PJ 2019- Facebook, Twitter & Instagram. This means you won’t have to like or follow more pages or accounts. This website will stay the same as well.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the PJ 2019 PR Team (aka Team Mercury) for their work and dedication over the past week, and for a couple of them, the last two years. I am blown away by the amount of content the team has produced each day- so much at times, it was difficult to schedule it all in one day. I’m sure you’ve noticed this on your social feeds! Thank you, Robin and Randy, for putting up with me for the last two years, and all my crazy ideas and the push for an all-digital newsroom. Thank you to our reporting crew- Lyndsay and Bruce, our video team- Ethan, Angelo, and Max, our graphics guys, Tyler and Jorden, our fantastic photographer Ian, and excellent spokesperson Sarah. Our team was much smaller than it has been in the past, but you would never be able to tell.

Your PJ 2019 Public Relations team

Lastly and most importantly, thank you to you, our followers, for the great discussions, comments, posts, likes, and shares. I don’t think my phone has stopped going off from all of your notifications since I arrived on site on July 2. And I don’t expect it to stop for at least one more week as everyone shares their PJ experience from home.

I would love to hear what you thought of our PJ 2019 coverage. Feel free to send an email to zach.dallas@scouts.ca with any feedback you might have. I’ll do my best to respond when I have the time.

Thanks again, PJ community. You rock!

Yours in Scouting,
Zach Dallas
PR Team Lead, PJ 2019
